The UK’s export performance has been disappointing with little sign that a dramatic recovery is around the corner. Yet paradoxically, the UK economy itself appears to be returning to pre-crisis levels of growth. This webcast examines the reasons why and discusses whether or not the UK’s GDP figures are artificially boosted by consumer demand that has been fuelled by schemes such as the help-to-buy programme. Rebecca Harding and Mark Gregory, Chief Economist UK&I at EY, examine UK regional trade and note that the West Midlands and the South West in particular remain powerhouses within the UK. They look at the growing opportunities outside of Europe, and in particular with Commonwealth countries.
